This is a compilation of 3 classic works from Edwards, which I've read more than a few times. I've been revisiting it lately, however, as part of my prep for certain speaking engagements this year.
Supernatural Living for Natural People: The Life-giving message of Romans 8
Supernatural Living for Natural People: The Life-giving message of Romans 8

WHY I LIKE IT
One of the church's most gospel-y preachers exulting through the most gospel-y of biblical texts. Fantastic.

By Thomas S. Kidd George Whitefield: America's Spiritual Founding Father [Hardcover]

My friend Christian George said every theologian must fall in love with a dead guy. Thanks to Kidd's riveting biography, my dead guy is Whitefield.
Life Together: The Classic Exploration of Christian in Community
Life Together: The Classic Exploration of Christian in Community
by Dietrich Bonhoeffer
WHY I LIKE IT
The first time I read this book, it was like taking the red pill and discovering the reality I couldn't see from my life in the religious matrix. A clear and compelling vision for gospel-centered community.
God in the Dock
God in the Dock

This collection of essays by the greatest Christian writer of the modern age is a marvelous compendium of the man's brilliance on a variety of topics. The entry titled "Myth Become Fact" was hugely influential on my creative and spiritual imagination during my teenage and college years. Still is.

The Gospel: How the Church Portrays the Beauty of Christ (9Marks: Building Healthy Churches)
The Gospel: How the Church Portrays the Beauty of Christ (9Marks: Building Healthy Churches)
by Raymond C. Ortlund Jr.
WHY I LIKE IT
A beautiful and little book by a beautiful and great man. Ray has been a wonderful mentor and spiritual father to me, and this book in the Building Healthy Churches series from 9Marks is a glorious distillation of Ray at his best -- explaining the implications of Christ's finished work in ways that are practically helpful and at the same time spiritually exhilarating.
The Glory of Christ (Puritan Paperbacks: Treasures of John Owen for Today's Readers)
The Glory of Christ (Puritan Paperbacks: Treasures of John Owen for Today's Readers)
by John Owen
WHY I LIKE IT
If Paul is right that it's by beholding the glory of Jesus that we are changed (2 Cor. 3:8) -- and of course he is right -- then you could do a trillion things worse than letting John Owen help you stare at Christ's glory page after page in this exceptional classic.
The Prodigal God
The Prodigal God

WHY I LIKE IT
Nearly every gospel-centered preacher I know basically plagiarizes the stuff in this book without realizing it.

The Bookends of the Christian Life
by Jerry Bridges,Bob Bevington
WHY I LIKE IT
If someone is new to the whole "gospel-centered" thing, this short and clear book will help them understand why it matters, why it's not just an intellectual thing or a matter of semantics. It's also a great refresher even if you're not new to the concept.

Perelandra (Space Trilogy, Book 2)
Perelandra (Space Trilogy, Book 2)
by C.S. Lewis
WHY I LIKE IT
In this book Ransom learns that myth is "gleams of celestial beauty falling on a jungle of filth and imbecility." That line captured my imagination, and this book is my favorite of Lewis's fiction. I daresay Lewis out-Milton'd Milton.

WHY I LIKE IT
One of the best times I had at the theater last year. When it debuted on Bluray, I had to pick it up. A slick, stylish, fun and retro popcorn movie. If only every action film had the whiz-bang genius of this movie.

WHY I LIKE IT
Criminally under-seen film from early 2015. Saw it twice in the theater. Wonderful story with an anomalous view of the future, a refreshing departure from all the dystopian bringdowns hitting the cinematic scene lately. An artful throwback to sci-fi of days past with sweet dashes of whimsy and an undercurrent -- unbeknownst to the creators, I think -- of a longing for the new heavens and new earth. A nice family flick, too.
The Martian
The Martian

WHY I LIKE IT
I'm not much of a science guy, and this book is heavy-laden with science. But it's incredibly well written, engaging, witty, and warm. Started it and didn't put it down till I was 105 pages in. Finished it 2 days later. Some salty language, but generally a great and rousing story.
